Hey,

Being an adult is wild, and I’m sure you know that. But how come as a kid it’s ok to not know anything, and the second people know you’re an adult, they expect you to know everything. I don’t just mean in work (where technically, I’m still told, I’m “allowed” to not know anything, but in 5 years time it would be weird for me to not know an answer - which is CRAZY). I mean there is so much information out there, the world is constantly shifting and changing, and there is something always going on. Do people really think we must know everything all the time?

Sometimes it just feels like this.

Can I admit something?

Information overload is real, and it’s ok to just desperately need a break. Sometimes I go so off grid, that I don’t keep on top of the news. Some days friends ask me if I have heard of the latest thing, and I openly admit that I haven’t watched tv or scrolled until the algorithm pushes that particular narrative. I don’t even have notifications for the news, because I’m so overwhelmed with the state of things.

Everything is so chaotic, and on top of that I have a job, I want to maintain a social life. I want to workout and eat healthy. Have a hobby so I don’t dissociate into a corporate bot, and do my part for the planet (even when it feels a little futile).

I’m just saying, it’s ok to want to stay up to date, but it’s also ok to not. To be fair, my friends tend to update me, and I’m ok with that. People feel a sense of usefulness if they can inform and help others, so me engaging in a conversation and letting them update me on what’s going on, makes them feel better, and it reduces the pressure for me stay on top of all of that, plus my life. Because it is overwhelming.

Thankfully there are services out there that take away the overwhelm and still inform you of what’s going on (scroll further for more details). So, maybe we can have it all, it just depends if that’s what you want.

Weekly reflection:

When your nervous system is truly in a state of peace, life doesn’t seem that bad. Find the peace.”
