Hey,

I really get annoyed when people tell me I should strive for better/excellence/more. Because they are saying that because they pin value on reaching that next step, and have 0 consideration for what I put value on.

Giphy -Wouldn’t blame you if you’re looking at my post like this, so hear me out 🤣🤣

If I was really unhinged, I would let them in on my thoughts, which is that the majority of us will be forgotten in about 2 generations, ~30 years (if we are that lucky). So why would I strive for a 1-size-fits-all aspect of what “excellence” is, and feel the insane pressure and stress to achieve that, knowing in that in only 3 decades I will be forgotten. And I say “if we are that lucky” because not every bloodline continues, and it’s not guaranteed that you won’t become no-contact with a relative who may never speak your name again.

I know this is so grim to look at it that way, but it’s this weird idea of legacy, and what people will think of us, that makes us feel scared to try new things. Explore and experience life to our own fullest and truth. And some people end up limiting themselves, with random excuses that literally won’t mean anything in a few years time. Time is so precious and finite. This consciousness we have is the only one we know in this moment that we are guaranteed to experience. So why waste it striving for other peoples views of success, when you can live your life to your views?

I’m not encouraging causing harm or doing something nefarious, but I am saying you don’t need to go home worried about the report you haven’t finished. Because unless that report is going to singlehandedly save a life (or many) in the next 24 hours, it’s not that serious. I also want to say if you work in a role that does do that (medicine, medical research, defence from non-humans, we appreciate your service and your employer should give you a room to re-regulate yourself from the stress that is your job).

But there is only a small number of people on the planet with such responsibility on their shoulders. So, take a breath, and re-evaluate what is serious for you. The way I think about it is, in my final moments I think our life flashes before our eyes 1 last time, and I want to feel in that final moment, happy, proud and content with how I spent my life, time and existence. Because at the end of the day, that will be the last thing I will experience, so I would much prefer it to be a happy moment, than riddled with regret.

Weekly reflection

Just because someone has experienced their life, does not necessarily guarantee if you follow their path you get the exact same result. Traverse your own path.

Have a lovely weekend,😊😊
